CryoSpan

CryoSpan (located in the same facility as BioPreservation) employs multiply redundant, fail-safe computer monitoring of liquid levels in patient dewars that are situated in reinforced-concrete, below-ground silo-vaults. These vaults offer unprecedented protection against earthquake, wind, fire, flood, and vandalism. CryoSpan uses an innovative design to reduce the boil-off of liquid nitrogen from its patient dewars and has a range of specialized equipment including a transfer/cooldown/backup liquid nitrogen bath made from epoxy fiber-glass, an automated, passive (and thus fail-safe) 20-day cooldown design with low liquid nitrogen usage, and a 3-ton gantry crane capable of lowering a fully loaded 4-patient dewar into a silo-vault.

  1. This service is provided by BioPreservation, Inc.
  2. Funds will be invested in the IPCF and will earn income. The principal will remain untouched. $50 per year of income earned will be used for CryoCare administrative expenses, $40 per year for IPCF administrative expenses. Any remaining income will roll over.
  3. Except for a CryoSpan security deposit these funds will be invested in the IPCF and will earn income. Except for CryoSpan's yearly maintenance fee all the income will roll over. The fund capital will be used only in an emergency or if it becomes possible to restore the patient. CryoSpan's yearly fee is $250 for neuro and $1,500 for whole-body. CryoSpan's security deposit is $750 for neuro and $3,000 for whole-body. CryoSpan pays 2% yearly interest on the security deposit capital (which reduces the yearly fee which CryoCare must pay to CryoSpan from the patient's IPCF fund income) and increases the capital yearly with inflation.
